mini me's

I cant believe my little Luca is almost one! This time last year I was approaching the end of my 42nd week of pregnancy, and I think I almost lost my mind in those final days. Yes here comes a big whinge... In the week before he arrived, I cried almost every morning when I woke up and realised that I had to endure another day of being so heavily pregnant. Up until my due date I was so ready for him to come out. I felt so strong and full of energy and totally prepared for labour. I even felt that I could probably do it without drugs. But then as the days and weeks went by after my due date, my energy disappeared and I just new that labour was going to be really really hard and that there was probably no chance of it happening without some serious pain relief. In a moment of desperation, I did an internet search on how to bring on labour and the results were frightening: - drink a cup of castor oil, go jogging, go driving really fast along a bumpy road etc etc

Anyway enough of that, he eventually came and he was healthy and beautiful.

Pia is starting school next year and we have found a lovely little school for her to go to which is so exciting. I considered a semi-local steiner school for her which I loved but Ed was not into at all, so mainstream it is. Besides I am teaching her to write this year (i cant help myself) which is not a very steiner thing to do.

So now that Im going to have a school age child I have to start looking at buying uniforms. I will be needing 5 new velour tracksuits in a range of colours for school drop offs. Oh and I guess I'll have to get Pia a uniform as well.

Here is Pia playing dress ups at Aunty Sarsha's house today:

me and my vegies

Ed and I have always loved our food and cooking. We used to enjoy shopping at the market on weekends and buying quality produce. Since moving to the suburbs, we have found ourselves stuck on that slippery slope that ends at the Coles check out. We found we were buying the same boring, tasteless food week after week. We had even started to buy a lot of Coles homebrand foods. Without meaning to sound snobby because we are soooo not, this situation is just not like us and is 100% to do with convenience and a general lack of time. Anyway, this weekend I decided enough was enough NO MORE SUPERMARKETS, I'm going back to doing what I enjoy - buying and cooking with beautiful food. And so it was with great pleasure that I made the trip to the south melbourne market early saturday morning. As opposed to shopping at a supermarket, market shopping is actually a pleasurable experience. And the most important thing of all is that the fruit and vegetables taste amazing. Luca couldn't get enough of apples and mandarins this weekend. We also picked up some lovely cheeses and hams. I'm sorry Coles you and me are like so over, thanks for nothin.

This weekend has been a very homely one , full of gardening and cooking. Over the last two days, Ed and I (mainly Ed) have planted about 40 plants, rolled out new grass and built a verandah (exhausting!!) Here is a picture of the first row of plants: Camelias and Gardenias with a english box hedge.

tag

I've been tagged by Jo. Actually I was tagged by Tamara a little while back but forgot to follow it up so here goes... Tamara, I hope I can be forgiven for the delay.

First the rules:

A. Each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves.
B. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed.
C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog

1. I am always multitasking and love nothing more than having the dishwasher on at the same time as the washing machine, with coffee brewing on the stove, and the phone on my ear, and the broom in my hand
2. I am quite healthy and dont get sick. I havn't had a cold in 2 years (but I realise that in saying this I will jinx myself)
3. I hate anything commercial: radio, TV I hate it all
4. I have the Age delivered every day but only ever flick through it. I dont know why I bother
5. I had a caesarean birth with Pia and a vbac with Luca. Caesareans are so much harder to recover from.
6. I love chocolate but dislike desserts and other sweet food.
7. If Im stressed out, I dont eat and lose weight.
8. I used to be a highly strung person, but Im not anymore.

So there you go. Now it would be pointless of me to tag 8 people, so I will tag just two: Christie, and Charmaine

I made this lamp yesterday, with the fabric designed by Lara. I was supposed to be making a lamp for Luca's room, but I saw this fabric at Amitie and thought it would suit my room. So Luca's lamp will have to wait.

And Pia is becoming quite the little artist:

more fire in the balloon please

The kids were so excited to see this balloon above our house this morning. It came so ridiculously close though, if I were in the balloon, I would have been screaming 'we're all going to die...AHHHH."

And my little 5 year old butterfly:
